Sonrise Notes for April 22nd....


Dove-Logo...Laura Story was the big winner at Thursday night’s Dove Awards at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Her hit “Blessings” won for Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year, while her album “Blessings” won Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year.


...Gospel artist Jason Crabb took home the Dove for Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, while Natalie Grant won her fifth Dove for Female Vocalist of the Year, and hometown girl Jamie Grace won New Artist of the Year in the same building where she attended her prom four years ago.


...Other Sonrise artists picking up Dove Awards included Switchfoot, whose “Dark Horses” (See the video) won for Rock Song of the Year and the album of the same name won for Rock Album of the Year. Lecrae’s “Rehab: The Overdose” won Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year, and “Hallelujah” from that album won for Rap/Hip-Hop Song of the Year. Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year went to Needtobreathe for “The Reckoning,” and their single “Slumber” won for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year (See the video). Natalie Grant also picked up a Dove for Worship Song of the Year for “Your Great Name,” And Praise & Worship Album of the Year went to Chris Tomlin for “And If Our God is For Us.”


...Several Sonrise artists took home Special Event Album of the Year Doves for their participation in “The Story.” David Crowder Band’s “Oh For Joy” won for Christmas Album of the Year, while TobyMac’s Christmas in Diverse City got the Dove for Recorded Music Packaging. Short Form Video of the Year went to Tenth Avenue North for “You Are More” (See the video). Find out who else won Dove Awards by Clicking Here.


...In addition to winning Dove Awards, Jason Crabb, Lecrae, Natalie Grant, Jamie Grace and Kirk Franklin all performed for the Fox Theatre audience. They were joined on stage by Mary Mary, Jaci Velasquez, Kari Jobe and American Idol alumni Danny Gokey, Ruben Studdard and Mandisa.

...TobyMac wasn’t able to attend this year’s awards because he was in New York for a taping of ABC’s “The View.” Toby and his Diverse City Band were there to perform for co-host Sherri Shepherd’s birthday.
