One of our favorite things about Sonrise is hearing from people who’ve been touched by something they heard on the show. Whether it’s a song that made an impact on your life, or a story that someone shared, it’s great to know that it’s helped in some way, so if there is something that has touched you in a special way, we’d love to hear about it. Everybody has a story, and we’d love to hear yours.

Ashley Kurpiel is an awesome lady who’s living with a rare disease that is getting worse, but you can help!  Ashley is from Peachtree City, GA and has battled Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive, or FOP. (FI-bro-dis-PLAY-she-uh,  ah-SIF-ih-kins,  pro-GRES-sih-vuh).  (FOP) is a disorder in which muscle tissue and connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments are gradually replaced by bone, forming bone outside the skeleton.  This horrible disease is basically turning her into a statue. Ashley is among the 900 known patients worldwide who suffer from FOP.  She is the only amputee, losing her right arm and shoulder.  7 months ago, Ashley lost her ability to walk, and now gets around by wheelchair.  The problem is trying to transport her to her many doctor’s appointments and outings.  Ashley needs a specialized wheelchair and a van with a wheelchair lift or ramp. She lives with her parents who are in their mid-70s so it’s tough on everyone.  If you want to help Ashley get some of her independence back and take some of the burden off her 70 year old parents, there is a GoFundMe page set up to help her and her parents.
